Music Festival Survival Tips

Music festivals are in full swing all around the country and with summer right around the corner, they don't look like they will be ending anytime soon. With long day parties and seeing as many bands as possible in a short amount of time. Music festivals are a great place to find out about new music that you may have never been exposed to. While festivals may be a ton of fun they can also be tiring. You are spending long hours in the sun and with little sleep.  Here are some tips for dealing with the heat, exhaustion and other things you may encounter. xponential-music-fest-philadelphia-courtesy-xpn1-900vp Image Source: VisitPhilly.com

Protect yourself from the sun

Don’t forget to protect your skin – Sunburn would not be fun on the first day at the festival. Remember to reapply throughout the day. Sunglasses or a cute hat from Apricot Lane Boutique could help out with protecting your face from the sun. glasses Image Source: Apricot Lane Des Moines sun hat Image Source: Cosmo

Have a plan

Make sure you have a strategy for your day. You will want to schedule time for naps or time to rest especially if you will be in the sun all day. You can plan a nap while the bands you didn’t care to see are playing and be fresh and ready to go while your favorites hit the stage. todo_list 600_441083011 Image Source: Theodysseyonline.com party 2 Image Source: Elitedaily.com

Snacks and water are a must

Depending on the convenience of getting food and how hot it is you may need something quick. You should carry snacks like trail mix, Granola bars, apples, and meal-replacement bars. This will help you keep your energy up and having you going strong in-between meals. You should plan on carrying a water bottle with you at all times. Dehydration and other heat-related injuries are common at music festivals.  Also remember that alcohol is dehydrating, and can be worse for your body in the heat than not drinking at all. If possible, stock up on purified jugs of water before arriving. Some of our Apricot Lane stores carry S'well water bottles which provides access to clean water for developing countries around the world and leaves your drink cold for 24 hours! Footwear and clothing

You should pack extra clothing for the weather. It's a good idea to have something light for warmer temperatures along with an extra layer to keep you warm at night when the temperature drops. Even though you will most likely be wanting to wear sandals and open toe shoes during summer music festivals, you should also pack closed-toe shoes just in case. Bring a flashlight

You might think useless but having a flashlight with you while at a festival may come in handy when having to navigate in the dark to use the port-a-potty. flashlight wilderness Image Source: thirdeyeheadlamps.com

Don’t bring anything you don’t want to get stolen

Bringing your brand new camera to a music festival may sound like a good idea at first but you may regret it later and never get those great shots you were hoping for. If you will have your smartphone with you make sure you have a protective case that will save it after falling into the water or mud that could be present. Be sure to carry in your purse or backpack to keep it safe. It may be a good idea to invest in a solar charger so you don’t have to stand in the long lines to charge your phone up. Some of our Apricot Lane stores carry wristlet clutches for example, is a Mighty Purse that has smart phone and iPhone chargers built-in! So now that you are prepared, go meet other music lovers and rock out to your favorite bands. the-funny-picture-gril-festival-girls-like-to-have-fun-25-photos-2 Image Source: Thefunpic.com the-funny-picture-gril-festival-girls-like-to-have-fun-25-photos Image Source: Thefunpic.com summer music festivals Image Source: Thefunpic.com

Start By Taking Everything Out

You want to be able to clean out the spaces holding your clothes. After the space is vacuumed and dusted you will be able to see what you have and can start putting them into piles.

Sort & Prioritize

Once everything is laid out for you to see, it will be easier to divide and conquer. Since we are moving into warmer months you will not need to keep all of your sweaters, jackets and wool cardigans out. You can put aside what you want to put away for later but you will want to keep a few warmer pieces out for those in between days.

What To Keep & What To Toss

If you haven’t worn it in a year, you probably won’t wear it now. If you haven’t but you still feel like you like it, then try making an outfit with it. If you can’t seem to figure out how you would wear it then it’s time to part with it. Denim is a different story, don’t just toss it because it’s old. If the pieces still fit you well they can always be refashioned. Breathe new life into items by using scissors to give them the frayed look or turning an old pair of jeans into shorts. T-shirts are easy to hoard so separate your vintage and favorite go to pieces from the trendy two seasons ago t shirt that you don’t even remember buying.

Take The Time To Organize

Use slim hangers to make more room and create a layout that makes it easy for you to navigate. Try putting together outfits and taking pictures of them to reference later. This will help you use everything in your closet more often so that you don’t get into the habit of wearing the same pieces over and over again.

Create 4 Piles

Separate clothes into a trash pile, donate pile, sell pile and dry clean pile. It’s easier to part with clothes once you know someone else will get to use them or if you can get some money from them. If clothes are no longer wearable, meaning they have tears or rips you can toss them. Other’s that aren’t of much value you can donate by dropping them off to a charity like Goodwill, Dress for Success or The Salvation Army. For the ones that cost you a pretty penny and you think someone else may love it, you can list online on sites like Bib + Tuck or take them to stores that sell gently used clothes like Plato’s Closet. Lastly, the clothes that need to be cleaned should be taken to be dry cleaned and stored properly so that they won’t get moth eaten while in storage.
