BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING UPDATE

Thanksgiving Day is less than a week away, but the holiday shopping season is here. This year, more shoppers are expected to pack stores around town.

Holiday shoppers are wasting no time getting in on pre-Black Friday deals.

Many stores at Town Square began slashing prices earlier this month attracting big crowds of customers looking for a bargain.

Many shoppers tell 8 News NOW they are trying to cross off everyone on their gift list before Thanksgiving Day and avoid the chaos of shopping during Black Friday. People doing early holiday shopping will still have a lot of company.

A survey by the National Retail Federation shows 57% of those celebrating the holidays began shopping in early November.

At Town Square, parking lots were full, stores were packed, and just about every shop was advertising some kind of deal.

A fashion stylist at Apricot Lane says the women’s clothing store began seeing the wave of holiday shoppers weeks ago.

“The traffic has picked up quite a bit around Town Square and in our store,” Fashion Stylist Tina Galloway said. “I think people are trying to, at this point, maybe get a little bit of rush, a little head start on holiday shopping, just because the last few years has tended not to really start on Friday anymore.”

Some holiday shoppers will crowd malls around the valley, others are getting it all done without ever stepping foot inside a store.

According to the same survey, almost half of holiday shopping will be done online.
